Fashion's Ego

Fashion Assignment

We just got our new assignment!

Short haircuts on women becoming a growing new fashion:
So basically baldheads are hot to men these days.

Girl did you hear Solange cut all her hair off?

Beyonce’s sister?

Oh my God!

Bet she Sasha fierce too!

She can rock any hairstyle

No she can’t! WE can rock any hairstyle! Besides, boho chic is in.

And nobody know that best but us!

Round toe stiletto? Do!
Tweet mini skirt? Don’t!
Ruffles? In!
Pleats: Out!
Red lipstick? It was cute……ten years ago!

We are the fashion gurus, the Messiahs, the end all to be all. No, really!
Our fashion squad is so hot, we have Paris Hilton’s personal agent asking where the closest newspaper stand is! They can’t wait to see what we say about them in the morning!

We have dinner parties with Iman, hold interviews with Tyson Bedford, yes, the Tyson Bedford.

Oh my God!

Vera Wang begs us to sit front row at all of her runway shows just to make sure the models pivot just right!

We know best!
Boosting the average from good to glamour,
bringing Hollywood down because the can’t make everything look as good as we do!

We distribute your report cards.

Granny panties? F
Bald heads? A
Tube socks? Eh…C-

This article will be like filing our nails: second nature! Of course bald is the new boho chic! It’s the new boyfriend trouser! The new--

But the story still needs an angle.

Fashion group

Our idea is to write a story based on the new fashion trend of bald fades on women (britney spears and/or solange) are examples are fashion setters. It can later be turned into an issue of gender roles and sexuality.

Sports Writers Article Idea

We didn't have an exact situation, but we thought it would be interesting to throw in one or two hypothetical situation with the true events, since ours is plausible as something that the public wouldn't necessarily hear about.

We wanted to make a story about a player on a pro team of some sport (football basketball etc.) getting a concussion during practice and sitting out for a while, some la-de-da. Later reports could surface that it was a gay bashing.

International Relations

Main country of interest: Brazil First idea: An article could/would/is written on the poverty of Brazil. We could be assigned to write a profile article of a woman in the favelas. There is a book written on a woman from the favelas called Children of The Dark: Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus.
The profile could be a telling account of a gender identity and how it’s created in Brazil/ the world.

One way to research this is to send the 3 of us to Brazil just for a weekend… next weekend, if not this one. We would settle for coach. Second idea: Study of Carnival in Brazil. We begin with an interest in the culture of music, dance, and performances. After finding out about the incident we begin to research more into the events to discover and blow up the aspect that it is common that men dress up as women during carnival. The quote that sparked the interest was "Brazil Carnival performance participants delve into their roles with the help of colorful and elaborate costumes." Third idea: Article is about economics and poverty in Brazil and the access of cyber discrimination towards women. Programs set up for women to cross the digital divide by creating easier internet access.

Response to Memo—International Relations Group

Elton: Yo, have y’all seen this shit?
Nat/Eric: What?
Elton: Remember homeboy that wanted in the woman’s bathroom?
Eric: That confused dude?Elton: Ya.
Nat: You mean that memo they sent out?
Elton: Yeah. You read it yet?
Eric: No. I’VE been too busy doing OUR article.
Nat: Well take a minute and listen to this. They fired that guy for some stupid reason.
Elton: He got fired for harassment under code 486 blah, blah, blah .33 under section C subparagraph probably exists, but wouldn’t look.
Eric: Iight, I’ve heard it. Can we please get back to our work now?
Nat: [ignores Eric’s comment] I don’t even understand what he did.
Elton: Walking into a woman’s restroom. DUH!
Eric: I don’t even think it’s that important if he just went in to use the bathroom.
Nat: Ya. That’s not harassment.
Elton: He was doing his own business just in the wrong department.
Nat/ Eric: Word.
Eric: So…did y’all here the new memo?
Elton/ Nat: What?
Eric: About finishing our article!
Elton/ Nat: Ok. Ok. Ok.

Sports Writers Reaction to Memo

1:(Reading Memo) It has come to our attention that an employee has been found in violation of conduct code 486..
2: Oh! It's a memo about my man
2 + 3: No Homo
1: and in accordance with of sexual harassment policy has been fired.
2 + 3: What!?!
1: Damn.
2: Fired??? Over bathroom sex!?! Where do I file my two weeks?
All: Hahaha
1: I bet it wasn't even bathroom sex
2: Eaahh she's just a prude playin' the victim to get a promotion or file a lawsuit.
3: Ahh, I heard, they got it in, but she's just a niece of an editor who got tight and scrapped him.
1: They couldn't have fired him over nothing, he had to have done something serious.
2: Well, what is this code 486 anyways?
1: It saaays...nothing specific. Just harassment.
3: So dude could've been just there alone droppin a duke and still be found under this ambiguous ass code? We didn't hear for sure about a girl in there with him.
1: According to this...I don't know.
2: Well if he was there by himself, why was he there?
3: I dunno, I'm just sayin' there's no urinals...and he's been here for a while, might have been intentional.
1: Maybe he feels like he belongs there?
2: Men do not belong in women's bathrooms.
3: Maybe he's curious, boy in international relations told me they got couches.
2: Rhino cocks don't need couches.
1: But even rhino cocks need to work.
3: Yea, you're right.

political group

A- He got fired? What did he do anyway?

B- Remember, he went into the women’s bathroom. They’re calling it sexual assault.

A- I mean, if the book is the book…it says no males in a female bathroom. He must abide by that. Problems begin when you think you can do whatever you want. You Can’t. America is not that free! He broke the rules; sexual assault.

B- But does breaking the rules automatically mean sexual assault? He didn’t do anything harmful to someone; he didn’t touch a girl or like look up her skirt or anything…

C- Exactly it violates code 486...Indecent exposure could be anything from sexual assault or he could have been adjusting himself and a woman walked in at an inopportune time.

A- We don’t know that; we weren’t in there when he did this.

B- But we have no proof that he actually did. We’re making assumptions. We don’t even know he’s gay.

C- Exactly what Im sayn! Ok so he was in the bathroom but nobody died, nobody's pressing charges so how could it be a sexual assault?

A-

Its only a simple bathroom, just stay in your bathroom, he could have ignored all this drama. That’s probably why Prop. 8 wasn’t passed because no one wants the follow these simple rules.

B- You’re reading too much into this.

C-No you can never read too much into something, he got fired for a reason, I just wanna know if it was a just reason or not-fuck it- let him be gay this world is more rainbow then it is red white and blue. Everybody sees everything as blue and pink blue and pink blue and pink what about the inbetweeners?! umMm yeah the inbetweeners, too bad we can't have a co-ed bathroom in this work space--HELLLOOO unisex, year of the american apperal model where both men and women can wear purple tights and be cool. If people would wake up then this shit would have never happend. People acting like its not 2009, it ain't the 50s everything ain't so black and white.

A- I agree , everyone in this whole office has gone haywire gossiuping over a man going into a womans bathroom, we have more intellectually stimulating things to think about, other than how a man may or may not have STIMUATED himself while using a womans stall.

C-Ahhh its all politics, pros and cons---I just didn't think our boss was that conservative--i mean fired? he had to of done something....

Fashion/gossip group dialogue II

Girl 4 reads/mentions the memo aloud.

All: Oh my God!

Girl 1: What?! He touched a girl?! I thought he was gay!

Girl 2: Girl, he is. I told u I saw him in drag-

Girl 3: No, that was just a disguise in order for him to get to the bathroom to touch that girl.

Girl 1: What girl?

Girl 2: Maybe they were just having sex.

Girl 3: In that bathroom?! Smellin like catfish and piss? The smell after somebody takes a shit

Girl 2 and 3: with the windows closed!

Girl1: Wait, what girl?!

Girl 3: I doubt it. He touched that girl. I remember one time I had on a pencil skirt and he brushed my ass with his fingertips like I didn’t feel his ashy hands on me.

Girl 1: Ashy hands? Last editorial meeting I shook his hand and it felt like he used Johnson & Johnson. I still think he’s gay! Wait, what does a gay penis look like?

Girl 2: Maybe he’s bi. Whatever he is, he shouldn’t be going into our bathroom. We got enough women who don’t wash their hands. We don’t need a man in there to shake and go too. What did the memorandum say again?

Girl 4 read more lines. Highlights “sexual harassment” line.

Girl 1: Wait, I never remember getting a policy book.

Girl 3: I spilled coffee on mine the first day here.

Girl 2: I use mine as a coaster.

Girl 4: I think I may have mine. (She pulls it out).

Girl 3: Why do u carry that thing around like it’s a Bible or something?

Girl 4 ignores the comment. Searches for rule.
Sexual harassment: The making of unwanted and offensive sexual advances or of sexually offensive remarks or acts.

Girl 1: That doesn’t say anything about bathrooms.

Girl 4: Isn’t going into a woman’s bathroom a sexual offense?

Girl: 3: I’d be pissed if I was wiping my coochie and I saw a size 13 crocodile shoe comin at me.

Girl 1: I don’t think he should have gotten fired though.

Girl 4: Would it be a sexual offense if a girl walked into a guy’s bathroom?

Girl 2: They might think that was sexy.

The Office MEMO prompt

OK team, lets review the facts:

The boss has sent down the pipeline an official statement about the "firing" in the office. It was a non-specific sexual harassment violation under code 486 of the employee handbook. Indecent exposure or something to that effect. Each of your groups has gotten the MEMO, read delivered to the groups by our 4 main characters. How do the groups react?

1-2 minutes of dialogue. Go.

Indifferent Men - Gender Neutral artifact

Man Purse (Satchel)

I think society focuses too much on appearances. People see one thing and may make connotations toward one gender for that object. That only restricts where our society thinks its acceptable.

(Looks down at Satchel and sighs)
...Some people see this and think its a purse, and that only women should have this.
Well... "this" is actually called a satchel. And It's really manly! I hold "manly" things in it. Like Axe Body Spray, After shave, bubble gum...(unsure face), and CONDOMS! (Yea!) Like Ruff Riders, Magnums, Ribbed, Flavored, and you know who those are for, even crowned, two bucks for one, yea I can afford it, and Trojans.

Plus! I don't let this bag mess up my walk or weigh down my swaaaag.
It's not like I'm switchin my hips while I walk with it, (gives example of switchin')
I work out! See these muscles! (flexes)
They help me hold heavy shit in here!

You know what I hate.
When I'm walking down the street & someone says, "Ay, I think my girl got that same purse."
DOUBT IT! 'cause this is a Satchel, not a purse. It's for men to carry important manly things, Like Condoms!
- Don't laugh, don't laugh
This ain't funny this is just a statement against how society gives prejudice to objects, segregating its belongingness to certain persons as if there can't be an arm with too many muscles or arm hair holding something with a sling unless its to repair a hurt version of this ligament, as if it must be due to a mistake or accident that we carry this.
But maybe that's just one of the ways in which we stress too much on gender segregation in products, and even locations.

Group: Women who are against a man going into the women's bathroom

(Woman gesturing as if holding a compact mirror and looking at herself. Puts it away when she says "Never had to....)

Before this, I worked blue collar retail and enjoyed my shifts best in the shoe department. Never had to prove myself a woman until I smelled a man in cheap perfume catching up with his partner, a bulge teasing in the middle of his miniskirt
every sentence ending with "GIRL" (Automatically makes a stale face)

(Changes up facial expression to a salesperson 'face') "Welcome to Sherry's Shoe Outlet. My name is _______. May I offer my assistance?

--"Me and my girl here need some strappy sandy brown stilettos in a size 13"

I forced a smile and searched for a size I knew was only made when custom ordered.

(Exhales before speaking) "I'm sorry, SIR, but our women's collection carry only up to size 10" (Emphasizes 'SIR')

Out of frustration, one of them whipped out his compact mirror and applied powder.
Held it just high enough to miss his adam's apple.
Never had to prove myself a woman. I just woke up that way.

And here he was, applying it with make up. Something I don't even wear very often.

Group: Men Against Men in Womens Bathroom---Artifact

I needed a reason to be nice. Needed to rise from the baptismal font sparkling with redemption and walk among men while still remaining clean. They said I was a mama's boy. Too obedient for a 5th grader. Truth of the matter was, I was scared shitless of my mom. I've never seen a woman so terrifying in my life, and dude, I've seen a hell of a lot of drunk sorority girls. At first, she beat the cross into me, with her pedicured nails. And when I learned to bear the gravity of other peoples stares, and I began to wear the cross on my own.

So I used holy water to wash the faults of others from my eyes. I needed to be born again and see the power in the way that god made the world. And the ways that humans corrupted his perfection. Started seeing eye to eye with god. That I didnt need weed to be uplifted. To see the beauty in the way god naturally made me.

Dudes at church just seemed to get it. The brotherhood we gained by embracing our natural selves. We all knew how to spout hollow air bubbles like we were still holding our breath under that water. And church girls were cute you know, because of their innocence. I didnt want them to lose that. I could feel it draining out of my mother the first time she hit me. I wanted to show women how to act. That they shouldnt beat their children. They need to be reminded to baptise with water and not bruises. Thats why I wanted to be with them. Women, that is. Women need a man like me in their life. To show them how to be innocent. And church girls are used to getting down on their knees every Sunday. They've had practice at bending down to men. And hey, I wanted to go to heaven, right? But if I couldnt be god, I atleast wanted to be godlike. Have a virgin mother of my own. But I dont want my kid to have two dads. To be confused about what parents are supposed to look like. One mother, one father. Anything else is an abomination. Atleast californians get it.

Indifferent/ For Girl Group artifact story

He called me besos. Kisses, for all the love he intended on giving me. 6th grade pre pubescence and the beginning of adolescent awkwardness didn't phase him; he saw I needed love. He was everything a girl could ask for. This "t" hung from his neck like a broken halo. Sin swarmed in his heart like fire flies in those clear bottles we used to play with on summer nights. At 12, he was my first love. As I grew older, I expected that love to grow from easy to complex. But it didn't; it stayed as simple as childhood.

He was the only man that might give you a little more bread on communion if you didnt tell mommy. That the holy ghosts was related to the boogie man and he had hands like tsunamis...Where are the lifeguards when snakes baptised you? He gave me this "t" for my bday and said it was a cross that jesus died on for our sins. So its ok for me to forgive him. Its ok to forgive when holy water tastes like stale regret and stolen mothers.

He slipped the cross between my fingers. God was tge first person to give him unconditional love and I followed. He felt the two should be connected. He said the burning bush could never reach and hung...I heard the heaven was infinite and God has room. I havent seen himhim since. But , my first love was a little different when i was different. ilearned to find the beauty in this difference. So, I'll forgive his. Maybe he'll put in a good word for me; my charmbracelet and this t.

The Bathroom Scene

Key: A=GiGi / B=Angela

A: Hey girl did you hear about the guy who used the women's bathroom? People are freakin out!

B: Mmmmhh..Yeah Gurl he probably just aint wanna run upstairs you know.

A: The mens bathroom is always flooding who wants to go in that poor excuse of a restroom. I know if there is a better bathroom I'm definately using it no matter what the sign on the door says

B: That sign don't mean shit! It's a bathroom, I mean he was in a stall right? Its not like me squatting over urinal.

A:Mmmmmhhhhh

B: IT's just a bathroom

A:Do what you gotta do

B: I know if it was me, I'd go pee

(Leaves restroom)
Not against man walking into the bathroom conversation
Eric Lima, Elton Ferdinand da thurd, Nat Iosbaker

Elton: Yo, ma dude. You heard about homeboi who walked in the female bathroom?
Eric: Yeah, I heard he went in there to get something for someone else though
Nat: I want to use their bathroom, too. Look at this place. And they have the cooler hand dryers in there that go zhhhhhhhh zhhhhhh
Elton: Word! Yo I’ve never really been in there though, but I guess…
Nat: I’ve seen bathrooms with couches in them!
Elton: Word?
Eric: Maybe the maintenance is better. Probably not so wet as it is in here.
Nat & Elton: That’s what she said
Nat & Elton: hehehehe jajajajaja
Eric: Shit, I’d rather be in there then have to deal with the smell coming out of here.
Nat & Elton: That’s what she said
Nat & Elton: hehehehe jajajajaja
Eric: Couldn’t he just read the sign?
Elton: maybe he was Scottish and got confused with the skirt on the door
Eric & Elton & Nat: hehehehe jajajajaja
Nat: What’s going to happen to our Scottish dude then?
Elton: I don’t give a fuck!
Eric: What’s the worst that can happen?
Nat: I don’t know, I want to know why he didn’t just use our bathroom
Maybe he’s gay
Elton: Y’all thinking too much
